I was just reading the “Is America’s Anime Industry Out of Touch with Fans?” article and started to wonder how much does an expensive anime cost compared to an inexpensive one. Could 3 million get me a good anime?

Even among professionals working in America’s anime industry, specifics about licensing are closely guarded secrets. Employees of America’s anime distribution companies may be polite, and even friendly with each other, but America’s anime industry is relatively small (compared to the traditional American movie & home video industry), so even small advantages can make a huge impact on an anime distributor’s success. I know what AN Entertainment has spent on its licenses, and I’ve heard reliable second-hand estimates of the licensing cost of some of the anime titles available in America, so I’ll extrapolate from that limited knowledge. Для любителів дизайну від BONES (нагадаю, вони робили Раксефон :roll:, Ковбой Бібоп кіно, Вовчий дощ, Цільнометалевого алхіміка, Евріка Сім…) — нові серії від них: Juuousei (Планета Короля звірів).
There are two brothers named Tooru and Rai living on the space colony Juno who find their parents dead one day. They’re knocked out by gas and exiled to a planet called Chimera. There, they are chased by a band of men until the leader Zagi takes them in. Zagi fills them in about the planet, including how it has two cycles of 181 days each: day and night, how it is separated into four groups (called Rings) - Blanc, Sun, Night, and Ochre - that correspond with people’s skin colors, and how the only way off the planet is to become the Juuou (King of Beasts). Anyway, Tooru is feeling held back by Rai and almost attacks him, but can’t kill his brother. They’re then surrounded by Ochres because they’ve wandered into that Ring’s territory. Tooru uses his beam knife on several of the guys, which prompts one of the Ochres to open fire with his gun. A that point, the vegetation comes alive and seems to eat Rai up along with several Ochres. Tooru is also about to be swallowed into the ground, but a mysterious girl throws him a line.
В двох словах — складний інопланетний сюжет по манзі, що чимось нагадує той же Вовчий дощ, 11 епізодів, дизайн, як завжди, на найвищому рівні, на трубі поки що немає.
Плюс для тих, хто вже став фанатом Судзуміїї Харухі (яка там друга серія! :roll:) — Ґандам-пародія на закриття :lol:.
Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu April 7, 2006
Ще одне досить прикольне аніме з весняного приходу — Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu, Меланхолія СУДЗУМІЯ Харухі; подивився по трубі, досить смішно. Це комедія, чимось схожа на Ґеншікен, якась насмішка над різноманітними аніме-кліше — камера тремтить, в кадр заходять сторонні люди, голос за кадром критикує події, а в кінці з’ясовується, що все це студенти (бригада SOS) знімають фільм :-). Дуже нагадує любительське порно, тільки замість сексу маємо магів, інопланетян, (магів-інопланетян), котів (не дивуйтесь, коли він заговорить, і не вірте виправдовуванням (”Це було чревовіщання!”)), каваїшного вигляду дівчину у костюмі з плейбоя, яка допомагає продавати капусту (!), і інколи носить автомат Калашнікова (”Але не стріляйте з нього людей, ні!”), періодичну рекламу посеред усього цього і всякий інший подібний абсурд (від якого місцями стає весело ^_^), та інколи, все таки, фан-сервіс (!) [...]

Усе-таки, здається, весна принесла в усякому разі одне гарне шоу, Нана. Я вже згадував про це аніме у загальному весняному огляді, та от почитав огляд на Мементо, подивився відкриття, закриття на трубі — думаю, треба брати. Люди хвалять (хороші люди), скріни привабливі (гарний дизайн), сюжет по манзі (плюс досвід уже відзнятого кіна), так що все за те, що треба його дивитися. Можливо, трохи зачекати першої серії на трубі — та я вже все рівно у Гартена почитав про неї в подробицях, все сподобалося [...]
Zettai Shounen - Pawprints March 30, 2006
Zettai Shounen overall is pretty light-hearted film, but I was impressed how it deals with the theme of death in 16th episode.
Okaka-baba (old lady Okaka) is an old stray cat — she came all the way to Ayumu (protagonist) in Tokyo only to leave him next morning. After a long journey she was very exhausted and they definitely gave us a hint, that she had died after that. But since it’s a Japanese story (and children-targeted one), they simply couldn’t tell us this explicitly and instead resorted to some metaphor. When Aymu woke up in the morning and didn’t find Okaka-baba, he then took a look outside and noticed there hers pawprints on the snow. So he walked out wanting to trace her. But on the road her pawprints had entangled with people’s footprints and so had became untraceable any further [...]
